PAUL Rowley insists he has no regrets over his decision to sensationally quit as Leigh coach before the start of last season.

While his home town club gears up for its first Super League season since 2005, Rowley finds himself in charge of Championship One new boys Toronto Wolfpack.

And among the many ex-Centurions players under his command, Rowley is now re-united with Fuifui Moimoi.

The iconic prop was unveiled as the Canadian outfit’s marquee capture at a special UK launch for the Wolfpack in Liverpool last Sunday.

And Rowley can’t wait to get stuck into his new role. “I have had seven months of holiday, I am refreshed and ready to rock and roll to be honest,” he said.

“But I have absolutely no regrets. I made that decision (to leave Leigh) and ask me would I change it-absolutely not.

“I am 100 percent confident I made the right decision. But I am pleased for the town because I am Leigh born and bred,” he said of Centurions promotion to the top flight under the leadership of his former assistant, Neil Jukes.

“I am proud of what I did for Leigh but I am happy doing what I am doing.

“As a youngster my dream was to play rugby league and I played for my country against Australia.

“So, I have achieved the ultimate goal for me. The ultimate goal for me isn’t getting in Super League.”

And Rowley believes Toronto will struggle to achieve back to back promotions to be playing in Super League by 2019.

“It would be a huge task and besides we haven’t been told promotion is what we have got to do this year.

“It is important to build something from the bottom. There is no rush at all. And it would be an unrealistic goal to think we would be in Super League in two years time.”

In contrast, Leigh are already there after a brilliant 2016 and they have now confirmed the first of two warm-up games for 2017.

On January 22, Centurions and Grand Final winners, Wigan, meet in the annual ‘Battle of the Borough’ clash with the added interest of Warriors’ hooker Mickey McIlorum’s testimonial game.

Leigh have won the fixture for the past two seasons and coach Jukes says: “Wigan will be bringing a real strong squad. It will be a good test for us.”
