LEIGH owner Derek Beaumont launched a verbal attack of Super League refereeing standards after Centurions’ 38-0 Bank Holiday Monday defeat to leaders, Castleford.

Winger Greg Eden scored the competition’s fastest ever hat-trick in 4 mins 57 seconds as Tigers cut loose after a competitive opening half hour.

While he had no complaints with the result, Centurions’ furious boss risked disciplinary action with a rant at match official, Chris Kendall, and all things referee related.

Beaumont also confirmed negotiations are taking place to bring in a new player, thought to be an organising play maker.

His appearance at the post match press conference, instead of head coach Neil Jukes, took the assembled media by surprise. It soon became clear why.

“Take nothing away from Castleford,” said Beaumont. “They are on fire and a superb rugby team.

“I was looking forward to watching them. I didn’t expect us to win the game but I felt we competed pretty well.

“However, I can’t accept what went on out there.

“I texted Ralph Rimmer (the RFL’s chief operating officer) at half-time and said ‘sorry Ralph, I am speaking up.

“Fine me if you want to.

“We need to speak up and stand up as a sport and talk. It is making our game look like a laughing stock, it’s a joke shop, it’s incompetent and it’s not good enough.

“It’s not just our game; it’s the game in general. You talk to every owner and coach and they can’t say anything because they are scared of getting fine. I don’t care about getting fined.”

Leigh only trailed 12-0 when Eloi Pelissier had a try under the posts disallowed for obstruction.

Atelea Vea and Sam Hopkins had other efforts turned down.

“There were Cas fans in the box beside me saying the guy is depriving us of a game.,” added Beaumont.

“We need to get the game where it is not controlled by the man in the middle.

“There were a raft of forward passes; balls being thrown that were a metre forward.

“The only kind of person who can’t see the forward passes there are backwards themselves.

“I can control the controllables but I’m getting sick of things I can’t control effectively.

“I run my business and if people don’t perform I can deal with it.

But who deals with the referee when they don’t perform? They haven’t got enough of them and they are not good enough.

“I want to see the referees accountable for what they do and I want to see them get better.”

Leigh’s defeat, four days after an encouraging 26-22 success at Hull, is also likely to cost them Glenn Stewart for tomorrow’s game at Leeds.

The former Australian Test forward suffered game ending concussion in the first half.

“We are lacking in ideas,” admits Beaumont.

“When we get close to the goal line we are lacking in creativity. It needs fixing up but it has already been fixed up.

“There is a player coming in that I think will fix that aspect up.

“We are continually without bodies “But we are not giving in. We will bring in what we need to and we are going to fix it up.”
