Leigh 31 London Broncos 18.

Crisis what crisis? Leigh’s fourth successive win and second Easter success ensured the storm clouds are finally lifting above Leigh Sports Village.

In two holiday fixtures, Centurions racked up 71 points and 12 tries including this latest success over the former Betfred Championship leaders.

Such are the margins in the game’s second tier that Broncos have now dropped to fourth with Leigh upto fifth albeit four points off the top four.

The only sour note was the early loss of prop Paterika Vaivai to injury with caretaker boss Kieron Purtill admitting: “The news doesn’t look too good.”

Otherwise, it proved another successful outing for Purtill’s charges though the final score line looked unlikely at the break.

Hooker Liam Hood’s latest try was cancelled out before half-time by former Bradford Bull, Elliot Kear to leave the game poised at six-all.

But Leigh raised their energy levels after the interval to ensure a disappointing Easter period for the Broncos also beaten at new table toppers, Toulouse Olympique on Good Friday.

Jordan Thompson and Harrison Hansen touched down in the opening 13 minutes of the second period and with Ben Reynolds adding a brace of conversions, suddenly there was daylight between the teams.

Broncos, who return to the LSV later this month for a fifth round Challenge Cup clash, weren’t exactly a spent force.

James Cunningham reduced the visitors’ arrears but unlike the early part of the campaign there was no dramatic Leigh collapse.

Scottish international Hood took his Easter try tally to three before Drew Hutchison, a reported target for Hull KR, ended the game as a contest eight minutes from the hooter.

Reynolds landed an even later drop goal to complete an 11-point match haul ensuring Matt Gee’s try was nothing more than nuisance value.

Purtill has been in the sport long enough not to engage in too much hyperbole.

However, he was suitably moved to suggest: “We are growing into it and coming together as a team.

“We are turning up for one another and you can’t ask any more than that. Four wins in a row isn’t good enough to get us where we want to be as a club,” he confirmed.

“We want to carry on winning and keep pushing ourselves towards the top four and get the club back where it belongs.”

*Leigh began their Easter programme with a 40-10 win over bottom of the table Swinton at Heywood Road, Sale.

Craig Hall, who returned to the side at stand-off alongside Aussie Hutchison, scored 20 points, including two tries.

Leigh, who led 24-10 at the break, finished with seven touch downs thanks to efforts from: Liam Hood, Nathan Mason, Bodene Thompson, Peter Mata’utia and Matty Dawson-Jones.
