LEIGH Centurions return home on Sunday with Dewsbury Rams the visitors to the LSV, kick off 3pm.
After a comprehensive win over Widnes capped a month on the road, Leigh boss Ian Millward expects another good performance against a team that defeated Northern Rail Cup winners Batley 36-16 at the weekend.
“Dewsbury did well against Batley,” he said.
“They are a fair team and we are going to have to play really well to beat them.
“It was a very good performance at Widnes. I thought the scoreline flattered them at half time and we played exceptionally well in the second half.
“Our completion rate was right back where I wanted it to be. That gave us a lot more energy and ammunition. We had a good week’s training and that also helped us.
“We are always trying to improve and we definitely did in the last game. That’s a challenge for us again over the next couple of weeks.
“Everyone played well. They all had a role and they carried it out.”
With no injury worries to contend with, Millward is in an enviable position of being able to select from strength.
“Overall there has been an improvement in everyone this year and on top of that with only two home games to go we need some support.
“If we can win our last three games then I think we will finish inside the top two. It’s a massive advantage for us and these next two games really set us up and really give us the opportunity to push ahead.
“No-one expected us to go through undefeated or win ‘x’ amount of games but all credit to the players.
“The Widnes game was one of our best performances of the year. That and against Halifax away were our outstanding wins. It just shows that we haven’t lost anything and it’s good that we’ve been able to move forward.”
Millward joined the Leigh Independent Supporters Association sponsored walk to Widnes for its opening leg and was pleased to see the passion of the fans.
“Leigh Centurions are pushing for Super League for the whole town,” he said.
“It was the passion of the town and those on the terraces that drew me back to Leigh and I would like nothing better than to help the club and the town back to where they belong - back in the Super League - and also for the club to be a true asset and focus of pride for the town of Leigh.”
With the increase in crowds in mind, the club have announced that for the Toulouse game on Sunday, August 14, season ticket holders will be eligible to purchase a ticket for £5 that can be given to a lapsed supporter, or a potential new one.
Leigh Reserves were crushed by Widnes on Saturday, with only Gareth Melling’s opening try giving any respite in a 32-4 defeat.
