Leigh Centurions re-sign four players and agree terms with another

LEIGH Centurions have now confirmed the re-signing of several prominent members of last season's squad.

Second rowers Tommy Goulden and James Taylor have inked new contracts, as have wingers Dean McGilvray and Steve Maden, while stand off Martyn Ridyard has also agreed new terms.

Goulden missed just one of Leigh's games last season and scored an important 15 tries for the Centurions in an impressive campaign.

Taylor surpassed 150 appearances for the club last term and has been a mainstay of every Leigh pack since 2006.

McGilvray only arrived at the club ahead of last season but the former St Helens and Salford winger enjoyed a consistent first campaign and finished with 9 tries in 29 appearances, while Maden enjoyed his most prolific season for some time, adding 15 tries in a solid season.

Ridyard turned professional in 2009 but 2011 saw him step up his game to new levels and the silky half back crossed for 21 tries and kicked six goals.

Taylor, Maden and Ridyard all signed their deals last night and the trio were all glad to have committed their future to the club.

"It's good, I'm very happy to re-sign for a club I've spent a lot of time at in the past," said Taylor.

"I'm a Leigh lad and with people like Ridyard and Goulden staying we have the basis of a good squad."

Maden added: "With what was going on towards the back end of the season, we didn't know the certainty of the club. It's good for them to get back on track and to sign again for next year.

"I'm 29 now and I didn't really want to go travelling. The closest team for us was Swinton and I didn't really bother looking elsewhere to be honest. Leigh was the only club I wanted to play for."

Ridyard added: "I had quite a few options but I felt my best option was to stay here at the right terms for the club and myself.

"I'm delighted that I've signed. Quite a few squad members are signed from last year, quite a few good members coming in from other teams as well, so it's looking good again for this next year."

The club are currently attempting to attract high quality loan and dual registered players.
