Marsh joins Centurions

LEE Marsh played himself into Leigh Centurions plans for 2008 with an impressive performance against his new employers just three weeks ago.

Marsh, a 25-year-old stand-off or loose-forward, made such an impression on Leigh's coaching team when he starred against them for Blackpool in February that they made a move to bring him to Hilton Park.

The deal was done this week ahead of the Challenge Cup deadline.

Marsh had only played four games for the Panthers when Leigh made their move to clinch a deal that sees Centurions fringe forward Darryl Kay make the opposite move.

Centurions Football Manager Darren Shaw said: "He's from St Helens originally and was at Salford when I was there and was involved in the set up there. He went on to play at Oldham and Swinton and is something of a points scoring machine. He's a big unit and can play six quite comfortably.

"The arrival of Lee gives us that bit of cover there and I've still got Ryan Powell and Martin Keavney. Lee also gives us an option at 13. He's been brought in to add strength in depth and just keep everyone on their toes."

"He's trained well, is very enthusiastic and although he's got a lot of experience already he's still got a lot of time. He's a very ambitious kid and is eager to listen and learn. You want someone that has that mentality and has that attitude."

In addition to two spells with Swinton, during which he set the mark for most points in a season, Marsh also played for Widnes Vikings.

"Darryl Kay had been to me a couple of times looking for an opportunity in the first team," admitted Shaw.

"But this year they are a lot harder than last. I think he was getting frustrated and wanted to go out and get a bit more game-time. Initially he was just going out on a loan deal but those enquiries went further. It's only going to progress his career. He'll be playing in the first team on a regular basis and that will help him."
