Rovers strengthen for busy period

Vodkat NW Counties League

ATHERTON LR geared up for their expected return to Premier Division action with a 5-1 victory over Mid-Cheshire League side Crossfields in a friendly at Crilly Park on Tuesday.

Rovers, who have played just twice since late November because pitches have been affected by waterlogging and frost, travel to Runcorn Linnetts tomorrow at the start of what will be a busy second half of the season.

Manager Dave Hughes has geared up for a crowded fixture list by strengthening his squad with the addition of former Bury midfielder Kane Bentley, ex-Glossop utility player Carl Beamish, goalkeeper Lee Mullen from Ashton Town and Paul Prescott, a forward with UniBond League experience.

Atherton Collieries, who have not played since losing 1-0 at LR on Boxing Day, take on Formby at Alder House.

Dave Conlon’s side will be aiming to end a run of three successive league defeats that has seen them slip back to the foot of the Premier Division.

Division One strugglers Daisy Hill entertain Potteries side Norton United looking for points to haul themselves closer to the mid-table comfort zone.
