IN a terrific match that showcased amateur rugby league at its best, both teams will be a little disappointed with the draw.

Miners will certainly want to go one better on Saturday when they face off against hometown rivals Leigh East, who currently top the National Conference League Premier Division by five points.

Miners welcomed Gittens, Jones and Gorton back from injury, but Thomason, Greenough and Warhurst were unavailable.

The drama began immediately, when Brow’s Phil Coyles spilled the ball on the first tackle and Miners found the corner for a dream start.

Some more fine rugby followed and a move from Balmer and Youds allowed Smith to touch down.

Wath responded but a mistake from the scorer Johnstone allowed Miners’ centre Leon Brennan to sprint the length of the pitch to take the half-time score to 20-6.

The second half produced some scintillating rugby, with Miners leading until the last 20 minutes.

Miners lost substitute Jimmy Muir to the sin bin for holding and Wath grasped the chance to get back into the game.

They scored three times in succession to go ahead in the final minute, but there was still a twist to come.

In the final moments Miners stormed the length of the pitch for Woods to level the scores in the corner.
