Tyldesley record breakers


RECORDS were broken at Tyldesley Swimming and Water Polo Club’s 133rd annual championship.

Daniel Laithwaite set a new best of 59.74secs in the men’s open-age 100m freestyle race, with Grace Morley also creating a record in the women’s 100m freestyle in 1min 5.32secs.

In the schools competition, Fred Longworth High School won both the Birtle Trophy and Clegg Shield, while Tyldesley St Georges Central collected the Cope Shield.

Peter McNestry, chairman of the Coalfield Regeneration Trust, was the club’s guest at the championships.

During 2009 the Coalfield Regeneration Trust awarded the club monies to send volunteers on courses that will benefit the club both in swimming and water polo.
