LEIGH gymnast Georgina Clements is following in the sporting footsteps of her grandfathers.
The 11 years-old member of the City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club is enjoying an outstanding season having been selected for the national squad following outstanding performances which earned her the North West British Schools’ title after winning all her disciplines including the beam, bar, vault and floor exercises.
She followed this up in the English Championships when she was placed fifth out of 40 competitiors and secured a silver medal on the bars – only just missing out on gold.
Georgina attends Bridgewater School, Worsley, and her performances have delighted her proud family, mum and dad David and Lesley Clements and little brother Lewis as well as grandfathers Tommy Grainey and Norman Clements.
Tommy was a long-serving player with Leigh RLFC and coached at his home-town club as well as at Salford, Swinton and Warrington.
Norman, who comes from Warrington, was a north west gymnastics champion and just missed out on selection for the 1956 Olympics.
Mum Lesley said: “We’re all so proud of her and three years-old brother Lewis is her biggest fan.”
