Iborra second in Horwich Jubilee race

ASTLEY and Tyldesley Road Runners were well represented in the Horwich Jubilee five-mile race.

Ben Fish, of Blackburn Harriers, easily won in 24mins 27secs, while Simon Ford, in a rich vein of form, crossed the line as A&T’s first finisher in 29.18.

Pete Chan, 29.50, fought off the challenge of Shaun Moran, 30.01, while Terry Gardiner knocked almost two minutes off his personal best to record 32.09, passing Alan Hilton, 32.17, in the finishing straight.

Craig Bradbury’s fitness continues to improve and 33.34 was a just reward. Not far behind was Marcus Taylor, running solidly for 33.53.

Rufus Bennett completed his first race of the year after serious injury, crossing in 34.15 and just staving off the challenge of Mark Lysycia in 34.22.

Other times were Garry Baines 35.12, Ian Hamilton 36.57, Glyn Thomson 38.14, Dave Crowe 38.28 and Paul Basnett 41.35.

In the women’s race, Joanne Iborra made a rare outing in the blue vest and finished first for A&T and second overall in 32.14.

Josie Maley was third overall with 32.49.

Brenda Wane, currently in the throes of marathon training, was the third A&T woman home in 36.36.

Carole Baines smashed her personal best with 37.24, while Michaela Shaw clipped 33 seconds off her time from the same race in June for 38.09.

A host of personal bests followed, including Suzanne Gregory 38.33, Michelle Fuller 42.39 and Laura Babynec 43.58.

Other times recorded were Vanessa Thomson 43.54, Denise Babynec 46.59 and Helen Minshall 48.21.
