Cowley International College is a popular high school situated in the North West of England, in the relatively small town of St. Helens. Founded in the 1900s it has been at the forefront of local traditions, whilst being at the cutting edge of technological development. It is a larger than average comprehensive school with an average-size sixth form. There are approximately 1490 students on roll, with 300 of those students studying in our sixth form. The school takes students from up to 28 primary schools.
In 2001 the school was awarded Language College status and is also involved in the 'Excellence in Cities' initiative. The school has also gained recognition in sport (Sports Mark 2000) and the arts (Arts Mark 2001); the number of students involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is exceptionally large. More recently, Cowley has been awarded the The International School Award which recognises curriculum-based international work.
The international dimension in education is an increasingly important part of agendas such as Every Child Matters and Community Cohesion; it supports the cultural heritage of teachers, learners and communities leading to positive learning across schools.

The college continues to make large investments within ICT and is reaping the benefits in terms of GCSE and A Level results. There are 25 computer suites comprising over 600 networked computers for student use, as well as computers for staff access and general use computer rooms.
The college computer systems are constantly being refurbished and replaced to keep up with the changes in technology.
