Book about real footballer

WHAT a tremendous book is Ah’m tellin’ thee. Not just a soccer story but a description of a way of life by football hero Tommy Banks to Astley author Ian Seddon.

No callow 20-year-old recalling his experiences, but an 84-year-old man who has experienced pits and building sites.

It is about ex-Mosley Common pitman Tommy Banks playing for England and his beloved Bolton.

Author and ex-player Ian Seddon’s research is spot on.

The social conditions are a testimony to the need to earn a living even when you have a natural gift that in the present would net you a millionaire’s lifestyle.

Instead a decent, honest, eminently respectable man gave us an insight into a wonderful real life. The use of dialect was a delight.

I urge Ian to find more real life stories about real people, not plastic celebrities who are not yet 30.
