I READ read with much interest the letter last week from ‘concerned resident’.
I really must point out that a ruling party is only as good as its opposition. Wigan Labour Party always has wasted time, money and resources in the name of Wigan MBC. Over the past few months I have tried to entice the local Conservative Party into some action as it used to do not just in the Powell/Woods years and curbed the local authority’s stupidity on many matters.
In 1971 Harry Sharland led the Conservative group on Atherton UDC and and they were able to reduce the rates.
Both the scenarios have one thing in common, there was a high level of campaigning on issues that people cared about.
Why oh why are the local Leigh, Tyldesley and Atherton councillors not able to raise the issues facing residents? Are they hell bent on just continuing their obvious self indulgences at internal, behind-closed-doors meetings?
So wakey, wakey local Conservatives. Begin making your views on local matters known, very publicly.
