REGARDING the introduction of a 20mph speed limit throughout the borough, who comes up with these harebrained ideas? I buy a car so I can get from A to B in a reasonable time. If I wanted to travel at a snail’s pace I would buy a bike.

We have had a 30mph speed limit in built-up areas for many years, why should it be reduced now? Part of our council tax goes to funding the police. Why are they not enforcing this speed limit?

If the council feels there are too many accidents why does it not educate the pedestrians and get the police to give road safety talks in schools and stop blaming the motorist.

A lot of accidents are caused by pedestrians not to mention cyclists who I see regularly go through red traffic lights and quite often ride on the pavement to get through traffic lights.

Some time ago a person was killed on the East Lancs Road at Astley. What do the powers that be do? They reduce the speed limit from 60 to 50mph. This does not bring the person who was killed back and there is no evidence it has reduced accidents.

Some time ago parking charges were introduced in our local hospitals for disabled people. Probably disabled people use hospitals more than able bodied people so this charge means they are being penalised.

Some years ago disabled drivers were given blue badges so that they could park closer to places they wanted to go to.

This Government has now introduced a fee of £10 for the blue badge thus making it a ‘licence’ to park. What does our council do? It introduces a charge to use this ‘licence’. Is this not discrimination against the disabled?

MPs and councillors were voted in by us to look after our interests. When the next national and council elections come round you all know what to do.
