I WOULD just like to congratulate the Happy Avenue resident on now being able to park outside his home after the parking restrictions came into force.

Maybe these parking restrictions need to be put into place in other roads within the Astley and Tyldesley areas.

I and other residents who live near the entrance to Birtle Drive have been trying for years to have yellow lines put in place to stop vehicles parking across from our homes. We also have inconsiderate drivers who park out of our homes, blocking our exit and access to our driveways.

I have approached Wigan Council and they very kindly came and painted double yellow lines, but unfortunately only on the corners at the entrance to the estate.

Wigan Council then informed me that they are unable to stop anyone legally parking across from our home.

At this date we have two transit vans and two cars parked up across from our homes, and another van parked on our side just by our driveway gates.

All are parked up and they are hardly ever moved for weeks at a time.

Birtle Drive is a very busy road as it is the main entrance to the estate, and is also used by parents at school times to drop their children off at the bridle path to Garrett Hall Primary School.

There have been many near misses, as during the school-run they have to avoid not only the parked vehicles, which make the road accessible for single traffic only, but also other cars attempting to exit and access the road.

I have informed my local councillor of our concerns but to no avail, I suppose we will just have to wait a really bad accident before our council will listen to our concerns.
