IN reply to the ‘happy resident’ of the Avenue, you misinterpreted my letter.

I have little disagreement with no parking on the stretch of road leading up to Leigh Infirmary. My argument is, if you read my letter properly, it is about the areas beyond that where residents have long driveways with enough room to park several cars.

Opposite these houses where there is no ample room for the residents to turn into their driveways and all the areas past Lilford Park up to the Red Wall have been made no parking.

Eighteen months ago all surrounding residents had a letter to vote on this and the majority voted against.

What we have now is a no-go area, people now are parking in the side roads off the avenue, soon these will have parking restrictions. Leigh will come to a standstill, where is the common sense in this?

Our roads cannot cope with the amount of public services now being built; originally we just had a hospital, now we have a separate walk-in-centre, doctor’s surgery/clinic.

The council must know we need more parking not less!

Finally one point I do agree with, the disabled should be able to park for free.

Fining the sick and disabled is certainly not the answer.

Motorists pay the maximum for using the roads as it is.
