REGARDING last week’s letter from a concerned lady, I can understand cyclists prefering to ride on the pavement, but wouldn’t it be safer for pedestrians if all bicycles had a bell?
They used to years ago. I walk down the cycleway/footpath along the East Lancs road with my dog and it is a nightmare.
If I didn’t look behind me every five minutes to check for cyclists, I or my dog would have been injured by now.
Surely it is politeness to ring a bell before passing someone. But do they have a bell?
Don’t walkers have as much right to be there anyway? There should be a law that cycles have a bell and they should be used as a warning.
