I DON’T believe it is the Hough Lane bridge closure that causes the day to day congestion.

I travel from Mosley Common to Tyldesley at around 1pm.

The traffic queue starts around the Gatehouse and is bumper to bumper until it reaches Hudsons Pet Shop.

Then, unbelievably, it’s clear.

I have sat in my car considering what the cause could be and I’ve come up with the word ‘courtesy’.

Just before reaching Adams Garage and going as far as Astley Street there are approximately five joining side streets and the one-way system, and as soon as a car appears on these junctions the driver is courteously beckoned in front.

It’s traffic from elsewhere that is causing the problem, and the school crossing, so there is nothing we can do about it.

And when the tram level crossing is in operation at the top of Mosley Common brew it will be even worse. We will just have to grin and bear it.
