THE first Win Street Surgery was held in Atherton on Saturday, June 28 by myself and Clr Jamie Hodgkinson.
It got off to a flying start despite the rain.
Many residents appreciated the fact that they could bring their concerns to be addressed directly by their councillors on a Saturday morning in the centre of town.
This resulted in many more enquiries from residents than would have been the case had it taken place in the Town Hall.
In addition more than 100 people came to the surgery to sign the petition to Eric Pickles, for an appeals procedure to be introduced which could overrule councils such as Wigan, who refuse to accept the results of a Communities Governance Review.
We pledge that we won’t give up until we’ve achieved our goal of an Atherton Town Council.
Remember they said that we couldn’t have a high school or sixth form college in 2009, but we got one in 2012. Just watch this space and see what we get.
