I WRITE in response to yet another letter from Mabel Jones.

I do feel that it would have been more helpful if she contacted councillors directly than keep sending in letters as I, as well as my Labour colleagues, collectively run surgeries three times a month, which we have done for a lot of years at York Street and Howe Bridge, so there have been plenty of opportunities to discuss any issues.

Just on the point of the group being unaware of what my colleagues and I are trying to achieve with the library, I feel Mrs Jones’ statement seems a bit like double standards due to the fact that the library support group, that she is part of, made it quite clear in correspondences to us that they did not want Labour councillors to be involved with them. Therefore they don’t involve us in anything they are doing.

It was their choice to exclude us, which was a shame when we tried to be involved, even taking time off work to do so.

But then, in her letter, she says that we have not supported them.

All I can say is we are supposed to be working towards the same goal to help our library service.

Myself and my colleagues would like to thank the library staff and management for the support they are giving us to try to get dementia advice sessions in the library, as we are hoping to be able to give support and advice to local people, which I did highlight in my literature, and to hopefully increase visitors to use our library.
