MAY I suggest councillors' pay and/or expenses should be cut including Lord Peter Smith, as a goodwill gesture to reducing costs.
I would also review the amount of committees and cut out or amalgamate them to save costs.
It seems that councillors can sit on these committees and increase their expenses which is paid for by you and me.
I, like many others, volunteer on NHS committees for the good of the common man and to better the service provided without any financial reward for myself.
The savings required need an independent, non-political, non-biased review, perhaps by rate payers.
This is the way to save jobs and services.
