AFTER looking at this week’s Journal and the article regarding the new busway I would like to share my comments.

I do believe the busway is a great venture using the old disused railway line.

However, I also feel the developers don’t realise the implications of sets of traffic lights that will have to be installed on already busy and congested roads.

Tyldesley alone will see three junctions where the busway will pass at ground level to the main road.

For me it seems we haven’t learnt anything from our fantastic engineering heritage, that without our modern technology, they saw the disruption the railway would cause to road traffic at these intersections and installed bridges for the trains to run above (Astley street) and below Hough Lane and Parr brew.

Surely this would have been the better option for our already heavily congested A-road infrastructure.

Your thoughts please.
