WHEN the Tyldesley Conservation Area was extended but the former tech in Upper George Street was noticeably omitted it was clear its days were numbered.
The omission was clearly to allow Wigan the planning flexibility which the other property owners had had removed.
Sure enough, this fine historic building was allowed to fall into disrepair and is now to be demolished.
This seems to be yet more 'asset stripping' in Tyldesley – will the money raised go to subsidise more 'gin palaces' in Wigan for the council or will it be ring-fenced for Tyldesley? I don't expect so.
