THE crescendo of negative comments regarding the busway in the Journal was inevitable considering the widespread public hostility it has always generated.

Contrasting the Victorians who built the rail line with today’s Labour politicians, only highlights the lack of common sense that comes from our present local political leaders.

The original rail route was brilliantly engineered to avoid conflicting with existing roads ‘on the flat’-using embankments/bridges, while today’s politicians have virtually destroyed these assets at great cost to the taxpayers – stupidly creating numerous ‘flat crossings’ that conflict with road traffic.

Leigh MP Andy Burnham has supported his party rather than what local people want on the ‘busway’, this of course calls into question where his priorities lie and how local people view his decision making.

Is Labour’s ‘busway’ in reality a ‘political folly’ that will haunt them come next year’s General Election?
