HAVING read some of the letters and reports on the traffic chaos that is the guided busway, I wanted to ask why more of a fuss has not been made over Wigan not being given the Metrolink?
I may live in Astley (and suffer the traffic), but I work in Altrincham and have the pleasure of using the Metro most days ... and it’s marvellous. I am struggling to see the advantage of yet another bus (to go along with the many others) when the rest of Greater Manchester has the far superior tram network. Could it be that we are simply not deemed good enough?
The Metro also has the advantage of a seamless integration into other parts of the Greater Manchester network, so you can travel from Altrincham to Manchester, Bury to Eccles, and beyond to the airport in the future. No bus will allow us to take advantage of this, I feel we are the poor relations.
I would have used the Metrolink, but will simply ignore yet another bus.
A missed opportunity I feel.
