I AM in receipt of the proposals by Wigan Council and Transport for Greater Manchester for the improvements which will be implemented later this year to Tyldesley town centre and, in particular, to the areas immediately adjacent to the Market Square.

We are told the water fountain will be renovated and moved back to its original location outside the chapel.

Is that significant? Significant enough to be mentioned three times in a relatively short report.

On two separate plan details, we are shown there is a bank on the corner of Chapel Street and Elliott Street. For a number of years, the building shown as a bank has been masquerading as a vet’s surgery. Judging from the “streamlined” shape of the Market Square, it will be more attractive to skateboarders than has been the case hitherto.

Perhaps Wigan Council could invest in several “no skateboarding” notices. Not that they would be heeded, in any case.

All in all, I wish the scheme well, and hope the efforts made to date will have been worthwhile.

However, as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and there could be quite a few serious cases of indigestion once the project is up and running.
