I AM writing regarding a recent article in the Journal detailing NLPGL’s regeneration of the North Leigh site.

Regeneration? I didn’t know that we or our countryside needed regenerating!

I grew up in Nel Pan Lane 60 years ago, playing in the fields, climbing the hills, fishing in the delph and the cocky pond, seeing the wildlife, checking it against my observer books and generally with my friends having a great time.

Now, in later life, we regularly walk the paths, loving the wild, beautiful and safe fields and their wildlife.

I also usually jog up the old railway line to Lovers Lane two or three times a week.

These fields and their authenticity mean an awful lot to a lot of Leythers.

The trouble is Wigan Council.

I think the word contaminated that the council uses regarding the land would be better used to describe our blessed council.

Okay, we as a town need 1,800 new houses. Why not five small developments of 360 houses to be less objectionable and easier for our existing roads to handle?
