I AGREE wholeheartedly with the comments of Paul Langin in the Journal in relation to the Turkish situation and the fact that MP Andy Burnham wishes to remain in the EU.

The entry of Turkey will invite an upheaval even more dramatic than the stupid ‘we welcome 800,000 to come to Germany’ remark uttered by Angela Merkel, which was the basic cause of our present catastrophe.

If Turkey joins, as it almost certainly will, Germany's dominance will become an irrelevance.

It was bad enough to allow a host of bankrupt Russian throwbacks from the old Yugoslavia and the Balkans to become members, but they will pale into insignificance if Turkey becomes an active participant.

The Turks won’t be asking, they will be demanding, and more to the point they will be getting, because we will be held to ransom.

They won’t be interested in meaningless endless talks treaties and the like.

The consensus of opinion is that Germany calls the shots as far as the EU is concerned, but at least Germany is a Christian country.

I fear if this latest move goes ahead it will be a case of ‘you ain’t seen nothing yet’.

As for Mr Burnham, for some obscure reason he considers himself leadership material. He probably has fairies at the bottom of his garden as well.

An ineffective, indecisive individual who ought to be considering the future, if not for his own sake at least for the future of his still young children.
