I READ, initially with interest, the piece in the Journal on March 17 regarding a ‘major regeneration scheme’ in Leigh.
The interest turned to disgust, then anger, as the area in question fronted by Nel Pan Lane was described as former industrial wasteland.
Yes, we live off Nel Pan Lane. Yes, we are currently lucky enough to enjoy walking in those fields, enjoying the wildlife, the greenery, the birdsong etc.
Most of the story felt like it came from the Wigan Council office of gobbledygook fronted by a Mr Smith, who recently had a vision. Bless him.
I realise that no amount of lobbying will change the minds of those concerned.
Where there are statistics that can be manipulated, and where there is greed, there can always be justification for need.
From a 60 something Nel Pan Laner.
