COUNCILLOR Mark Aldred, the agent for Atherton and Atherleigh Labour candidates, was instructed by returning officer for the local elections Donna Hall not to deliver any more of the Labour 'Election Special' leaflets in the Atherton and Atherleigh wards.

This followed complaints about the contents of these leaflets made by Independent Network candidates Cllr Jamie Hodgkinson defending his seat in Atherton and Stuart Gerrard standing in Atherleigh.

Donna Hall was told by Cllr Aldred that there were no more Atherton or Atherleigh leaflets left for distribution, yet in both wards Labour candidates continued to deliver the election leaflets.

In her e-mail to Mr Gerrard she stated: “Falsely representing a candidate is illegal and therefore you need to formally report your concerns regarding misrepresenting your views on this leaflet to Greater Manchester Police.”

I say that the Labour Party needs to clean up their act and instead of attacking their opponents tell people what they will do for the community if elected.

As the agent for Cllr Hodgkinson and Mr Gerrard, I am proud to say that they stick strictly to the Nolan principles and treat their opponents with the respect they deserve.

Does Cllr Aldred do this?

How low will the Labour Party stoop to gain a seat?

Meanwhile, I have launched a campaign in Tyldesley with the help of Michael Livesey, Julian Marsh and Craig Cohen to make the town an Independent Network.

It got off to a great start with overwhelming support from the majority of shops, who tell me that they feel their opinions have been ignored by their local Labour representatives for years.

I say that now is the time for a change, otherwise Tyldesley will become just another commuter town with its heart destroyed by a bigger and more powerful Wigan.

The council was asked to release some of their vast reserves to help regenerate the local economies of the satellite towns, such as Tyldesley, by giving them £1 million to spend in their communities.

Your local Labour councillors voted against this proposal put forward in the opposition budget for 2015, then again this year.

I say that Tyldesley needs its own town council with its own funds to regenerate the town before it loses its identity, and the sooner the better.

I also support the proposal to break up the Wigan Borough, which I think is far too large and impersonal, by forming a new borough based in Leigh incorporating the wards of Tyldesley, Atherton, Astley and Mosley Common.

I have been fighting for this since 2010 when I put it in my general election manifest for that year.
