THE other day I witnessed a large alsatian attacking a smaller dog, which was rendered unconscious.
Both dogs were on leads with their owners, who were passing each other.
The alsatian wouldn’t stop the attack and was too fierce and strong to be immediately withdrawn.
In a call to the police I was told by them: “It is nothing to do with us. It wasn’t intentional, the attack dog is not on the dangerous dogs list and the owner of the smaller dog should have pulled it away.”
When I suggested the victim could have been a child and a record of this potentially-dangerous animal should be made, it fell on deaf ears.
How many attacks like this go uninvestigated? There is apparently no-one with any responsibility to help prevent incidents like this.
Tragic results, which always make headlines, do then involve the police.
Parents of small children, steer your little ones away from nearby large dogs, just in case.
What I saw was horrible.
