WIGAN Council is hell-bent on closing Atherton Library with the excuse that it is not being used by the community.
Of course it’s not as Wigan has taken on the tactics of British Rail, which cuts the timetable almost to the point of non existence when wanting to close a branch line.
The library has no late night and does not open on Saturdays. Its services have also been reduced, such as no computer courses.
The solution is to let it have the hours of Tyldesley Library, being open until 7pm on Thursdays and until 2pm on Saturdays.
Finally, good luck to the Friends of Atherton Library. It certainly needs them with enemies like Wigan Council.
