THIS photograph of a tawny owl perched in a derelict building is our picture of the week.
It was taken in Astley by amateur photographer and retired teacher Martyn Jones, 60, of Merlewood Drive, Tyldesley.
He is a member of the Leigh Ornithological Society and the picture has been featured on BBC programme Springwatch Unsprung.
Martyn said: “After retiring I was looking for a hobby, and with always having an interest in wildlife and animals photography was ideal.
“I had been trying for ages to get this photograph. Then a few weeks ago I got it, with the bird, its position in the hole and the light being ideal.
“I am really happy. It has been one of my goals to get a picture like this.”
