CLLR Nazia Rehman stated in last week’s Journal that she wishes to ‘promote equality and acceptance’ in her role as ‘ethnic minorities representative’.
I do hope this is a two-way message, applying equally to the indigenous population and to those of foreign origin.
Wigan Borough and Bolton folk are known for their friendliness and openness.
Travel on any local bus and conversation between strangers is common, even if it’s only to complain about the weather.
But it is difficult to get to know and extend friendship to other women who are totally covered from head to toe.
I note that Cllr Reyman, of Pakistani origin, is happy to ‘do as the Romans do’. It would be great if she could encourage others to do likewise.
