I AM a resident of Hope Street in Leigh and would like to vent my frustration at the traffic chaos.

The street is frequently used by motorists to avoid traffic lights on the main road.

This often includes vans and work vehicles using the route to potentially save time.

Recently the AA attended a breakdown on the street and the driver was shocked at the amount of traffic on this residential street.

He said there is more traffic there than on most main roads.

Nearly every day I witness incidents of road rage where parked cars mean two cars in opposite directions cannot get through and motorists refuse to budge.

This has led to several incidents of violence and on many occasions several cars have had to reverse back.

On some of these incidences parked cars have been damaged by reversing cars.

It is no good the council putting up fancy 20mph speed limit signs if no-one is going to police them.

The street often has cars parked on both sides, making it extremely dangerous for children to cross easily as vision is blocked.

Already one child died a few years ago and the situation has become much worse since then.

Adding speed bumps on the street would take away large chunks of parking space as it would become impossible to park over them, so I am not in favour of this idea.

However I do feel the council needs to seriously consider making a dead end in the middle of the street.

A lack of action from the people at the council would surely lead to them having blood on their hands as it is only a matter of time before we get more fatalities via road rage or a traffic accident.
