I AM not happy with Wigan Council wasting taxpayers’ money.

A month ago the public footpaths on Moorgate Drive and Fieldhead Avenue were resurfaced.

Now the council has dug up the pavements and replaced the lampposts, leaving big, ugly holes in the new pavements.

There is clearly no communication from council departments.

What a waste of money.

All residents are up in arms.

The council informed us of the pavement replacement but not of the new lighting.

Shameful.

Mark Tilley, assistant director for infrastructure at the council, said: “We are currently coming to the end of a massive three-year street lighting investment programme and while we always endeavour to co-ordinate other simple maintenance works around it, it is not always possible with a project of this scale.

“The original work was to reseal the footpaths and prolong their lifespan.

“The works should not affect this but we can appreciate residents’ frustrations and would like to apologise for any inconvenience these works may have caused.”
