IN my recent letter I posed the question ‘what price democracy?’ I asked that as the Tories are cutting sitting MPs in Parliament from 650 to 600, in order to save money, yet at the same time are increasing Tory representation in the House of Lords by 25 per cent.

Now Prime Minister Theresa May is at it again. In her inaugural 60-minute speech at the Tory conference she used all that fine pontificating in saying the majority should decide what the country needs, not the chosen elite.

That was on the Wednesday. Yet the next day we hear that Mrs May, the Government, Downing Street and London have decided to give Cuadrilla the go-ahead to frack for gas near Blackpool, despite Lancashire Council’s objection, which was arrived at by a majority vote.

The locals, Green Party and many other environmental agencies agreed with Lancashire Council.

How dare Doublethink Theresa give permission to spoil and pollute such a beautiful area.

Remember Cameron’s lot quashed the fracking idea in Hampshire, making it dead in the water.

A case of ‘not in my back yard, give it to them up north’.
