I READ with interest the letter from Frank Parkinson in the Journal.

The points he made were exactly right.

If the MPs think something is good for the south of England they will accept it.

If they don’t like it they will dump it on the north of England.

We have just had a superb example with them voting for a third runway at Heathrow Airport.

Conservative MPs have appeared on television and said it will be good for all of England.

Wrong – if we fly from Manchester Airport to Europe or beyond it is always more expensive than flying from London, and if we have to travel to the capital to catch a flight, travelling down there is just as expensive as getting the flight from Manchester.

These MPs also say that bringing freight into London is good for the country.

Wrong again – by the time transport costs have been added onto the north of England, when we buy the goods they will cost more.

I am surprised no MPs from the north of England, especially our own one, appeared on television to say it is not a good thing for the whole of the country.

Mr Parkinson also says that Prime Minister Theresa May and the Government have given Cuadrilla the ok to start fracking for gas near Blackpool. Another case of not in our back yard.

Is Cuadrilla and Quadrilla the same company? Am I right in saying it is an American company?

If so, what is its interest in pushing for fracking licences in the UK? If it finds gas, what will it get out of this?

I am well into retirement now but when I was working I was a heating engineer in the oil and gas industry.

Years ago we discovered oil and gas in the North Sea.

The Government of the day announced ‘we are now self sufficient’.

It was then announced that all the gas appliances in the UK would be converted to natural gas.

Not long after this all the oil and gas was sold to America and our gas and petrol prices went through the roof.

I think the message about fracking is ‘beware’.

People have short memories.
