THE other day I was reading the Journal’s article about two teenagers being attacked by gangs in Astley.

In my opinion there is an easy way to get rid of gangs of young men and women.

Young people nowadays have no jobs to go to, no matter how hard they work at school.

National service should be brought back for those who are not lucky enough to get a job when they leave school.

Let them serve their country, not in wars but in learning how to be part of a team, not gangs.

Teach them about having responsibility for their actions.

Let them go into camps, taking no mobiles/ tablets.

Make them live in dormitories, get up at 6am each day, make their own beds, dress in their uniform, have breakfast at 7am and then give them a backpack with supplies and take them into the countryside to exercise, march and clean up rubbish they pass.

For lunch they should build a fire and cook their own food.

Also teach them first aid and how to drive cars/vans properly.

When they are on leave they should be able to go to sports matches for free.

Once they have done three years of national service, which should earn them a salary, the Ministry of Defence/ Government should ask them what they would like to do back in civvy street.

Then help them if they want to go in the forces, be a paramedic or go to university to learn to become a teacher or a nurse.

Bringing back national service would help the fight against terrorism and help young people to get and give respect.

Disabled people should be excused from doing national service.

I have written to the House of Commons three times to express my views and have three letters back.
