IN response to Mary Lavelle’s letter in the Journal, I am a second generation immigrant here in the UK and I don’t think the voters’ revolt can be entirely blamed on immigration and the knock-on effects.

Maybe if the Government had invested in its own infrastructure and not on wars on foreign soil we would not be getting so many immigrants from these countries and the money spent on wars would have been better spent on housing, the overburdened NHS, schools and all the other services we use.

By going into war or joining a war in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan it is inevitable that you will get a migration flow from them.

Like Mary, I want a solution to the immigration crisis, but I don’t blame them for the problems and neither do I think Brexit/Trump is the answer.

All Trump and Farage have done is cash in on people’s fears.

That reminds me of a lunatic far right leader not so long ago in history.

If we don’t want to repeat history and demonise certain communities then I think we have to stop giving these far right leaders the platform to preach and spread hatred.

How can Trump serve all Americans – who are immigrants by the way, except the indigenous minority – when he has alienated so many before even starting?

I am not offended by anyone wearing a poppy. Neither am I offended by Easter or Christmas, and I truly believe if you speak to the majority of the people who our leaders think are being offended they will tell you otherwise.

However if the question is turned around then why are some people offended by helpless women wearing scarves on their heads?

Instability around the world will only lead people to escape to where they feel safe.

Maybe the answer is to ask our governments to stop getting involved in wars and to invest in bringing peace to countries where there is instability.

All I ask is for tolerance and acceptance of everyone, goodwill to all.
