THE Rose Centre, which was formerly known as Lowton Civic Hall, is yet another most needed asset to go.

Has Wigan Council become the cause and not the cure?

Does it truly care about residents’ physical and mental health?

An ever increasing number of people are becoming obese and mentally ill. Many do so due to leading a poor quality of life, which does tend to bring about chronic boredom and a low level of self-esteem.

The way things are going I would not at all be surprised to read this:

To all residents, please only venture from your homes to travel to and from your place of employment, for shopping and of course your GP visit.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Your most caring Wigan Council

Ps We take a dim view of anybody having fun, being entertained, joining a club (except the Labour Party), watching a show, a play, a brass band performance, a talent contest, a school performance or being involved other trivial pursuits such as line dancing etc.

Playing in any teams whatsoever – especially to do with football, rugby and cricket – or being in a martial art, poetry, writing or reading group is also now frowned on as they make use of venues and open spaces which are now wanted by this council for housing developments.

I believe the council now works against and not for a better and healthier lifestyle for the residents of this borough.

No wonder we have a new mental health unit opening in central Leigh shortly as we are going to need it and more besides.

By the way this was built at the central location despite more than 340 written objections, including from a school, due to it taking away a much-needed open greenfield that provided space in a heavily built up area.
