LOCAL authorities seem to have been giving a lot of time to cyclists recently.

They are painting cycle tracks on a lot of roads, including allowing cyclists on some one-way roads to go in the opposite direction to traffic.

Also in some areas they are painting cycle tracks on pathways and in some cases they are dropping the speed limit on roads to 20mph and painting a bicycle in the middle of the road.

All this is being done out of taxpayers’ money with no input from the cyclists.

Has a new law been brought out for cyclists? A lot of them ignore red traffic lights or ride round them on the pavement to get through, sometimes on blind corners where people might be walking round.

Also a lot of them ride at night without lights, but we do not now have the police to enforce these laws.

Another thing that we are being told recently is to look out for horses on roads.

In Astley there seems to be an increase in the number of horses and traps on the roads.

Do these ‘vehicles’ have to be insured? If they hit a car who pays for it to be repaired? These questions have to be asked.

Another important question is when are local authorities going to start looking after disabled people? This needs urgent attention.

When are local authorities going to start looking after disabled people on the streets?

When are they going to stop vehicles parking on the pavements?

I am disabled myself and I have a small mobility scooter.

In a lot of cases I find I cannot get past vehicles parked on pavements.

The other week I came across a case which I think needs urgent attention.

I saw a blind man walking down a road on the pavement and he went into the back of a parked car.

He tried to get round it but I could see he was having trouble so I went to help him.

I said to him: “Can I help you?”

He replied: “What is going on? I come down this road on a regular basis and I have never had a problem before.”

Three cars had parked nose to tail against a garden wall.

I got him round the cars and he thanked me and went on his way.

Local authorities, it is time to get your fingers out and clear the pavements of vehicles and look after the disabled people in your areas.
