I WOULD like to say a massive thank you to Birchalls News and Off-Licence on Union Street, Leigh.

On the way to school on Monday my 10-year-old son Bradley dropped his lunch box on the floor.

It split open and all of its contents had to be thrown away.

As he was outside this shop he nipped in to ask them if it would be possible to clean the lunch box as it had rice pudding all over it.

They cleaned it up for him the best they could and also offered him some lunch to replace what was in it.

They gave him some tuna mayonnaise and sweetcorn pasta, which was exactly what I had packed for him, then told him to pick himself a packet of crisps and a drink of his choice as they couldn’t see him going to school with no lunch.

Upon picking my son up from school he presented me with his broken lunch box and told me the story.

I was so taken aback with how kind they had been I went in to thank them and to pay for what they had given to my son in place of what he had dropped on the floor.

They would not accept any money so my son had the idea to get them a thank you card and a little something to show our appreciation and gratitude.

I cannot thank both of the ladies in the shop, Angela Hook and Elaine Hulme, enough.

If it wasn’t for them and their lovely gesture my son would have gone hungry.

I thank them from the bottom of my heart and I will never forget what they did for my boy.

Little things like that go such a long way. Those two lovely ladies have restored my faith in humanity.
