THE robbery of Tyldesley Post Office last Thursday is particularly concerning as it is the only place in the area where we can deposit money.

Lloyds Bank will soon close and I hear all the ATMs in the town have been targeted in the past few weeks and months.

I am worried Tyldesley is being targeted by a gang or due to word of mouth because there are so few police on the streets and, with a response time of about 15 to 20 minutes, criminals have plenty of time to get away.

It seems that shops are being repeatedly targeted.

I am led to believe that in the past six months robbers have made the manager at Heron Foods open the safe twice, Monks TB&D newsagents has been robbed, Aldi has been raided and set alight with thousands of pounds stolen and an ATM has been opened and set on fire after thieves made a racket using an angle grinder for two-and-a-half hours.

Where were the police?

Tyldesley’s residents are becoming scared to death, especially carrying money around.

I certainly don’t feel safe any more going to an ATM in our town.

I believe robbery crime in Tyldesley has shot up like never before due to police cuts in the area.

The people of Tyldesley and surrounding areas are paying the price for that.

I have been in contact with Tyldesley Cllr Steve Hellier and the police sergeant for the area and they have assured me police are trying their hardest to police Tyldesley, Atherton, Mosley Common and Astley with one police constable and two community police support officers.

I am very disappointed in GMP’s policing of this area. I think it’s disgusting.
