IN reference to Frank Parkinson’s letter in last week’s Journal, the problem of people parking on pavements has been around for some time now.
But it is a growing problem in terms of the way vehicles are being parked and obstructing the safe passage on the remaining part of the pavement, especially for a blind person, a pram, a worker with a wheel barrow, a person in a wheelchair etc.
In conversations I had, the council stated it was a police problem and the police said it was a council problem.
When a police officer visited me he parked his car on the pavement.
Later I received information from the council showing that it is responsible for dealing with pavement parkers through civil enforcement orders when waiting restrictions are displayed where they have parked.
The information shows that Greater Manchester Police are responsible for dealing with pavement parkers who have caused an instruction forcing pedestrians into the road when waiting restrictions are not displayed where they have parked.
