SIR, Last week's article "Turnaround for town" made interesting reading, and most readers will welcome such an important town centre investment.
The involvement of Wigan Council, our MP Andy Burnham and the Northwest Regional Development Agency is rightly highlighted, since they are the instigators of what promises to bring much-needed beneficial change to the town, but there is no mention whatsoever of how or when the views of the general public will be taken into account.
Local government policies include many references to encouraging the community to participate in discussions on matters affecting developments of this nature, surely the opportunity has arisen for Wigan Council to practise what it preaches and involve its interested inhabitants in decision-making.
Are there plans for residents to view the proposals at an early stage and make comments and suggestions? Or will it be a case of simply accepting what has been decided elsewhere?
I'm certain the great majority will support the proposals, but how much better it would be if their views had been considered.
