On the right track?

SIR, Is Councillor Bradbury perhaps a bit misinformed about Cambridgeshire's equally 'Misguided Busway'.

He wrote: "Some journey times on the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway are now 36 minutes compared with the original 32 minutes on a conventional bus.

Service frequencies which were promised of every three minutes, are every 20 minutes".

The CGB is not only massively over budget and behind construction schedule, it has never actually run!

All crossings are blocked by concrete slabs, the site remains in the hands of the contractors pending court action over deficiencies (including flooding on the parallel access track) and the overspend. No bus has been seen on it since tests. We were promised services from August, then November, then "the New Year", and now no date at all.

We had a railway line there, with basic infrastructure in place from mineral freight use until 1995. We still want a railway. We'd settle for a tram. What we have is a cart track George Stephenson would have laughed at.

A complete archive of the fiasco is to be found at http://www.noguidedbus.com/ Don't do it, Leigh!
