Deserving of preserving

SIR, I use the new joint Leigh primary school, but I did not want to see the lovely Leigh Girls' Grammar School building demolished.

I did not feel properly consulted. Meetings I attended were presentations by outside architects who had very little consideration for the area. The objections to the demolition were fashioned as objections to the new school. The two issues being entirely separate.

Ironically I have a copy of Borough Life featuring the ‘Mayor’s boatyard’ being preserved to accompany another set of preserved buildings – Wigan Pier.

It has also featured Wigan Infirmary’s preservation as a Victorian building.

Is nothing in Leigh worth preserving?

It is ironic that prior to demolition of LGGS, WMBC were recommending that the Fire Station, LGGS and Sacred Heart should be preserved.

I support our local MP but I feel our local councillors do not speak out enough to support us.

The only ones who seem to speak up for local issues are Councillors Splaine and Bradbury.
