SIR, It was my Task at the Council to second the Budget speech setting a 1.25% increase for this year but I was amazed to find that on top of the usual increases for fire police and transport there was a 46.5% increase on their extra local parish council tax for our people living in Shevington.

Despite the Government capping Main Council tax increases at 5% max there is no limit on what a local town council can charge. So my apologies to the people of Shevington, although you live in Wigan we are not allowed to stop this increase for you.

Please remember this is on top of the Wigan MBC council tax and not instead of.

The petition for Atherton's town Council is already with Wigan MBC so the risks are even greater. Did Atherton really want higher Council tax than the rest of the area ?
